Heidi Martin

 Hello! My name is Heidi Martin. I’m originally from Golden, Colorado,  but moved to the Grand Valley about six years ago. I attended Colorado Mesa University with the goal of becoming a children’s book illustrator.  As part of my studies, I was required to take a ceramics class, and it completely changed everything for me. From that point on, I decided to  fully pursue ceramics.

I graduated from Colorado Mesa University in 2025 with a Bachelor of  Arts and a concentration in Ceramics. Today, I teach children and adults how to throw on the wheel at Fat Cat Pottery while also working at Sundown Clay Company, where I help customers find the right materials and techniques to bring their creative visions to life.

Since graduating, I’ve been fortunate to earn a studio space at Means Pottery Studio in FARM, where I continue to develop my skills and refine what makes my work uniquely my own. My work explores a variety of different techniques such as, the combination of functional and sculptural work. As well as, illustration and the balance between glazed and unglazed porcelain surfaces. My work aims to celebrate the overlooked beauty of the natural  world, transforming familiar creatures and organic forms into elegant  yet playful functional objects.
